TOUCH

Yep, it is the season for new TV shows...but the question I had was whether or not the new FOX show Touch was going to live up to the expectations many had for it. So what can I say, i'm a Keifer Sutherland fan, and I sat down to watch the show this past weekend on hulu. The show is about a father, Martin Bohm (widowed), who trys to understand his 11 year old son who has autism. The boy has a rare gift, and as Martin realizes what his son is capable he learns to understand his son even more. This first episode had a very intriguing story line. Loved the little boy, and I loved Kiefer Sutherland as the boys father. It was exciting to watch, and I liked that it really made you think. Where I think the show is going to draw its audience in is through the emotional connections it provided to its viewers. The strong father-son connection and the fight that Martin has to go through in order to keep his son as a single parent is amazing. If anyone felt for the characters parasocial relationships with this show could become very strong. I personally loved it. I hope that the episodes to come in the future will be just as entertaining.

The Hunger Games and Caesar?

From Shakespeare to the Hunger Games?! ....So you all may have heard about this play. It has been the media I have been most exposed to this week because I have been reading the book for the past week for my History class. I thought I would hate it at first, but it has actually been pretty interesting play. I really liked the characters. But I was astonished to find out when I first looked at the names of the characters in the front o f the book that Suzanne Collins may have swiped some of the names for her characters in the Hunger Games from this play. Many of the characters in this legendary play incude: Cinna, Portia, Flavius, Cato, Claudius. All names found in the Hunger Games! The characters even have a lot of similarities, it is very interesting to compare the two. It made reading Shakespeare even more interesting. Check it out if you get the chance!

ALCATRAZ

So apparently it is the time of year when a ton of rocking new TV shows come out. I'm stoked for the return of American Idol, I've been watching the firm, and so with all of the commotion about it I was interested in the new TV show Alcatraz. I watched the first episode since the premiere last night and oh man was it suspenseful! I found myself yelling at the TV screen trying to tell the characters what to do. It was a great show, but at times a little creepy. I mean these are supposedly the worst criminals of all time. And wow they were. I'm not quite sure if the content is going to get to gritty for my taste, but I'm excited to see these three take down another criminal next week before I judge whether or not it will stick. Check it out, its pretty crazy! I definitely think this is one of those shows that could make you paranoid!

An Inception Blog: A Blog about a Blog

NOT JUST any Blog... It's Cake Wrecks!!! So yeah i'm blogging about a blog...

So to start if you don't know what cake wrecks is, it is pretty much the coolest blog on the planet (I have blog envy). They have produced books from the blog posts they have done, and basically the idea is that they show the general public professional cakes that got well really messed up obviously. But now confession time, I love the part where they show the messed up cakes, but my favorite part of cake wrecks is the Sunday Sweets portion. Now these cakes are not wrecks, they are beautiful cakes that are oh my goodness unbelievable to look at. It's crazy how cool they are. I love being able to look once a week at something I have an interest in. (This probably fullfills the creative itch I have), because I miss decorating cakes! I used to do it for cold stone creamery, but I had to stop because it was taking up so much of my time. Either way it is pretty much the snazziest thing out there and many times it makes me smile during the week. If you haven't looked at it before check it out www.cakewrecks.com!!!!!!

Sports, Sports and more Sports..

It doesn't matter if it's Venus vs. Mars, if it is a Football game it is on at the Hess House...

When the house is clean and homework is done and there is some brief time to relax in our house the TV goes on and the feet go up. And like most true Americans my husband loves watching football! He has his favorite teams that he roots for, but really any football game will do. Even though this isn't my first preference in the long list of things that we could watch, most of the time I will sit on the couch with him or at least be listening to the game while I do something else. In thinking about how much media we are exposed to I realized a lot of the TV watching/listening that happens is because I'm watching sports....A LOT! Even though i'm not actively viewing it as a die hard fan I realized that if someone asked me the next day I could probably give them the highlights from the game, the final score, and my favorite commercial that aired during it. It made me realize what a big part of my life sports, and the media that is associated with sporting networks (like advertisements for food) are a huge part of the media i'm exposed to. This also made me wonder how often advertising companies use things like a football game that gives us a jolt of excitement to advertise certain products that we would be more likely to buy because of our positive association and love with football. Answer: Probably more than we even realize-Ex: Super Bowl Commercials.

FACE TIME!!!

Everybody is always looking for the new I phone that is supposed to come out next. I know so many people who have a collection of I Phones tucked away because they keep buying the newest and greatest thing. With the introduction of the new I phone 4S people were lining up out side of stores just to get in on the newest technology the phone had....Siri. Well because of its over ending use the Siri network has crashed a few times and all of this commotion made me think, why do I want and I phone and what is the best part about it....?

Well I found it....It's face time!!!!

My mom got an I pad for Christmas and my Grandparents also got new I phones and because my mom now has an apple product she can have face time with my dad. Now many of you think, why is that useful. Well my dad goes out of town several times during the month for work related business and now we all can talk to him. My grandparents who we also don't see very often have since joined the club and I love it. I tested it out the other day for the first time, and I was so excited because it gives you the ability to have a face to face conversation with someone. So many times I have talked to family members over the phone, but being able to see them and how they are doing makes it so much more personal! I think this is one of those circumstances where technology is an excellent tool that can help bring people together. I'm so excited my family just got equipped with it so we can stay connected so much better. Forget Siri, use Face time! (even though Siri is pretty cool too)

One of my new favorite TV shows: The Firm

The Firm premiered Sunday Night in a two hour special. Since my husband and I found nothing else on TV we decided to watch the show to see if it was something we would like. Within the first half hour we were hooked! It has awesome suspense to it, and great characters. It has the action of the hit TV show 24, the mystery and thick plot you would suspect from a show like NCIS, and the excitement of a court room you see in shows like Law and Order. The show is going to be on every Thursday night and so now my husband and I are planning on watching the show together on a weekly basis. The Firm is a piece of media that I believe I choose to watch because of the uses it has for me personally. I love having a show that my husband and I both love watching, so it improves our relationship. I'm really excited we found something we both enjoy again. I also love the show and it is useful to me as a diversion from my everyday life. I loved that when the show ended I had no idea that two hours had gone by. I love getting absorbed for a short time watching something that is as entertaining as this show.
