From Shakespeare to the Hunger Games?! ....So you all may have heard about this play. It has been the media I have been most exposed to this week because I have been reading the book for the past week for my History class. I thought I would hate it at first, but it has actually been pretty interesting play. I really liked the characters. But I was astonished to find out when I first looked at the names of the characters in the front o f the book that Suzanne Collins may have swiped some of the names for her characters in the Hunger Games from this play. Many of the characters in this legendary play incude: Cinna, Portia, Flavius, Cato, Claudius. All names found in the Hunger Games! The characters even have a lot of similarities, it is very interesting to compare the two. It made reading Shakespeare even more interesting. Check it out if you get the chance!
Wow, that's really interesting! I was wondering where she got the names from...guess I got my answer!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That is crazy! I'm pretty certain she used those names on purpose. I'm gonna have to read the play!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! This is definitely a great play: hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely intrigued! I want to read this book sometime and see the similarities to the Hunger Game characters.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited you wrote about this! I was reading my ancient history textbook this week and there was some historical Roman dude called Seneca! As in Seneca Crane, the game-maker from book one. This, of course, made me very excited, and I began to realize that basically all the characters from the Capital are Romans! I hadn't made the connection with the play, but I can definitely see the connection between the Roman Coliseum and the Hunger Games....
